hi all

I recently acquired this plane in a job lot. It's had a hard life. This photo is after I squared up the sole and side and cleaned the metal parts up a bit:

the wedge is split, so I've glued it up

the depth stop screw fixings have rotted and it's been re-fixed at a jaunty angle to avoid having to plug and re-secure in the right place:

it's really badly split, hence the sole and side were off:

oh, and it's been in a fire:

It's also missing its 'nicker', and despite sharpening the blade judders on wood and won't cut. There must be a knack to setting these things? Or shall I put it away, given its condition?

cheers
Gavin

Ciao,
it seems a disperate case. I would put it away or you could reuse the metal parts for making a new one.

Everything needs to be stabilized and you need to make a nicker. The blade is set just proud of the boxing and the nicker just proud of the blade.

For its condition, you could stabilize it just about any way you can think of and not worry too much.
