hi folks
ive been given some old wooden clamps/cramps ,they are a similar pattern too toolmakers clamps, ie two threaded screws working in two parrallel jaws.
my problem is that on 2 different clamps the wood used to make the threaded clamp screws is so brittle the raised threaded profile is flaking off, i believe this to be due to the wood being very dry ,having not been treated over the years.
to refurbish these clamps , i am looking for advice as to what wood to use to remake the screws ?
these screws are approx 15" long ,thread o/d 3/4" threaded length 12".
im thinking that a wood with a tight grain structure would be preferable.
