Jeepers...there is inflation and then there is wood price inflation. Especially 'exotics'. Driven by the Chinese middle-classes taking a liking to furniture made from 'exotic hardwoods' I had heard that prices had gone through the roof but hadn't quite appreciated by how much until I came across an old invoice from Dec 2011...just over two years ago.

Zebrano per cu m £1410 Now £5400 :shock:

Bubinga per cu m £900 Now £3585 :shock: :shock:

That's a quadrupling in price in just over two years ! And of course the higher the basic price, the higher the VAT you have to add on....which doesn't bother those who are VAT registered but smaller outfits cop it.
 
i have just taken the last of their 1" and 2" bubinga from a suppler. I bit his hand off when he offered me it at £30 a cubic foot, and even gave a generous measure around a split! Tool handles for life is the plan, and with a couple of cubic feet, I should have plenty to use!
