Wood Identification Help...?

A friend of mine has given me a couple of recently felled lumps of wood.
They are still quite Green but spalting has started so I dont know how long ago they were cut.

I've cut a lump off one of the logs and taken a couple of pictures.

Moisture content is still at 25 to 30%.

The wood is very pale when cut and initially I thought it may be Beech but I've worked with Beech before and this seems a lot more White...?

As you can see, there are Red/Pink grain colours against the White background.

I've been using a lot of ash in the last few years and looks very familiar.

She wants me to turn her a couple of bowls out of it. I may try rough turning it whilst it's still Green and then store them away until the M/C is lower.

Anything I should be aware of or do differently with Ash as I've never worked with it before. I've turned Beech, Oak, Bog Oak, Cherry, Apple for example...?

Tell her no! :lol: That blank is perfect for hammer handles! Dead straight grain with perfect end grain orientation if you cut it right.

If you have to make a bowl with it it’s relatively hard stuff when it’s dry but it should be pretty easy going when wet. The pinkish colours will disappear once dried out.

As tempting as it is to tell her it would make ideal hammer handles,.... I dont think she would have a great deal of use for them

The 1st bowl has been rough turned, end grain sealed and is now stored away and wrapped in many layers of newspaper for a couple of months....

The rough turned shavings have all turned a distinct shade of Pink.... :?:
