Can anyone tell me what wood this is?

Given the difference in heart and sapwood and the radial crack lines plus pips it is almost definitely Yew.

I'd also go with Yew - but it might be Juniper (I had some of this and it looked a lot like yew, and was nearly as hard as yew) - however Juniper smells of pine resin when turned and Yew doesn't.
 
I don't know if the photos are misleading but all the yew I've seen has quite an orangey reddish dark wood, whereas thus has a light brown colour with a very creamy White contrast. Its almost like White and milk chocolate colours.

Juniper sounds interesting. I gave some sort of cypress in the garden and turned done of that. It had a similar creamy colour so I could believe they were related. I don't remember much of a smell though...
