Wood ID please

Hi folks,
I've been given some random bits and one of them is puzzling. I thought it was laurel, but would appreciate your thoughts. Doesn't really matter- just nice to know before I spend hours turning it into shavings and interesting firewood!

That's a hard one! It's hard to say what it is without a planed face because the saw marks distort what the timber actually looks like. The bark is also a bit of an odd one. Do you have any photos of the end grain?

I don't think it's actually a hardwood, is it really a really fragrant timber? Kind of looks like Cedar of Lebanon up close.

Bark looks like Aspen.

I'm away at the moment, so I'll get some more shots when back, and try it on the lathe to see how it turns and if any smell.
