Calling all computer experts!

My fairly new Lap-Top has recently developed an issue where I get the following message when I start up:-

‘Failed To Connect to Windows Service
Windows could not connect to Group Policy Client Service. As Administrator, you can review etc’

This issue seems to be causing problems particularly in that I can no longer access updates to Windows 8 and some other MS systems are either very slow to open, or cause issues requiring closing down.

Any ideas what I need to do – in simple terms!

Phil

I would search the fine web for "Windows could not connect to Group Policy Client Service" (without the quotes). I just did and proceeded to read the first hit. Part way down someone says what he did to fix it. I don't use windows on my own machines so can't verify what he's saying. Be careful if you edit the registry, one false move could cause more issues.

Have seen that a few times, first off download MalwareBytes from MalwareBytes.com, update the database and then run a full scan to check for any malware etc.

Some malware makes changes to the registry to deny permissions to stop access to GPO's and Windows Update and other Update sites. Others will modify the hosts file and put a bad entry in there to stop the sites being accessed as Windows accesses the hosts file for DNS resolution before it looks to a DNS server.

Try that first and see what Malwarebytes finds.

Cheers,

Jon.

Hi All

Thanks for all your help, I should have know that Google would come to the rescue!!

I've managed to fix the problem actually very simply. One of the comments on the YouTube site said to unclick the Group Policy check box in Administration, restart and Bob's your uncle! It worked!!!

Thanks Again

Phil
