:) Some years ago I was a member of the Cornwall Association of Woodturners (at the beginning). There were some extremely good turners there, some professional, and someone had the idea to approach the Tate Modern in St. Ives and find out if they would be interested in hosting a small exhibition sometime in the quiet winter months. The letter was duly sent, and the reply came quickly - "thank you very much for your offer, but we have to turn you down as in no way could woodturning be considered artistic." :)

Jacob.

I`ve only just seen this thread & would have like to have seen the Turnbull programme, could you say which channel it was on so I can see if it available on demand some where?
Presumably it was about his life as I remember seeing he had died last November, I`ve been meaning to get across to Chatsworth but will wait till the weather picks up.

From your link I particularly admire the work of Jannis Kounellis who`s ideas seems to inspire many of todays artists.

Regards.

Not trying to be funny or awkward here
But could you please explain to me what i am missing with the Picture of his/her work
It looks like somebody has stored some stones for a wall to keep them out of the mud before finishing a dry stone wall ???
In fact can anyone tell me what I am supposed to see in anything that is the link that was posted other than piles of different materials and rubbish
And before anybody gets upset Yes I am serious

Roger

It's good that you are serious and not liking it is a very good starting point!
I know what you mean but over the years as I've seen more of these sorts of things they start making sense. You'll just have to take my word for it.
It's a bit like listening to music and discovering that something which appeared to be just noise has suddenly started to seem more interesting. A lot of people experience this, with Opera say.

Last night BBC4 10.30pm.
It was really interesting esp his connections - Paris, Brancusi etc, then a load if elderly Brit artists.
I saw some of his bits at one of the shows a few years back but there is a lot of it at the mo.

Where are you in Derbyshire?

I have had a look & it is still available on the Vito box thank you.

Also thank you for the link, shamefully I am on the east boundary of Derbyshire, not that far from Chesterfield or indeed chatsworth but have yet to pay the exhibition a visit.
I am afraid that when something is on your door step one tends to over look the local attraction for those further afield when planning a day out, I really need to explore Derbyshire more.

Well, I've just realised, I'm producing ART too, and I've produced some in my life. If these guys can dump some stuff on the floor, arrange it and call it 'Art' and people take it seriously then who's taking the mick out of who? but it's when they look at it seriously, put chin in hand and then start spouting off that it is representing the meaning of life or harmony of worlds or some such tosh that you need to yawn, say sorry and leave.

Some railway sleepers cut up and stood on end????? I've done that a lot of times to make raised beds in peoples gardens, little did they know that I was creating a masterpiece in their garden, had they known, or me for that matter, then the price would have been more.

And leaning some wood against a wall????? you now must realise you all have your own art galleries and not a workshop, start charging entry fees immediately!!!
