The Grand Prix having finished and while waiting for some glue to dry (definitely more interesting than paint!) I clicked on the members list to see who had been slacking. It turns out that nearly every one has! A few statistics:-

No. of members/ Posts
0-281/ 0
282-388 / 1
389-479 / 2
480-540 / 3
541-576 / 4
577-605 / 5
606-632 / 6
633-652 / 7
653-671 / 8
672-682 / 9

I could have carried on to the end but collecting these statistics was slowly sapping my will to live and in any case a clear picture was emerging. Ninety percent of the posts are by ten percent of the members or something like that. Of course we could blame Alf (actually, that was my real reason for stopping - I didn't wish to embarrass the lass) but I shan't. Instead I want to know why all those folk who have taken the trouble to sign up are not posting. Asking someone who never posts to explain themselves in a post invites ridicule so I shan't, hence this poll. You can reply or at least vote, anonymously!

Sure, only sad people post. Those that really need to get a life....

You missed out
Alf won't let us get a word in edgeways
Folks, for the love of Norm, if you post, I won't have to! [-o< Just give two posts a month and over-posted Alf can live a normal life again. Going out into the sunshine, even re-united with her social life...

Who am I kidding?

Cheers, Alf

Since you wanted a reply from someone that has not posted previously...

I am completely new to woodworking and has been reading this forum for a while now. I have to say thank you to many of you regular posters since I have learned very much. But since I am new in this I don't even know what questions to ask! I am reading this forum, some woodworking magazines and of course working in wood as much as I can. I will post when I have some question or maybe even has learned enough to answer one!

Anders

Hi Anders

Thanks for your contribution to this thread and welcome to the forum :) .

What sort of woodwork interests you? There's no need to ask specific questions or seek information as such; it's amazing how much knowledge gets shared when we just chat generally around a subject.

Anders,
welcome. I think you are the first Scandinavian member.

There really are no borders on the World Wide Web.

Not quite option 2..

I only tend to get on here on an evening (after 9 pm),and being a relative newcomer to woodworking, tend to find that I have nothing to add to the existing replies (too many good answers) but am quite happy to read and learn. :D

I seem to do more joinery than woodworking (shelves, fire surrounds, iguana vivarium, garden gates etc.) and only recently extended my shed to make it into a workshop,to be able to get a wood lathe in - which I am slowly getting to practice with.

Anders - I take it Scandinavian woodworking isn't all Ikea !

Are you going to show us your work then?

Definitely not all Ikea. We have (or at least had) many fine furniture manufacturers and I think that Scandinavian design is known to most of the world (even before Ikea).

In the winters I am attending to a woodwork course once a week. Unfortunately I don't have access to a place to work most of the year so I can't do as much as I want to.

I have done a dinner table and a bench for my audio and video equipment and some smaller things. I would like to practice more with hand tools since much of my current work has been made with machinery.

Most of the other forums I have read seem to have the same problem -- that is 90% of the posts are by 10% of the members. Off the interet, in the real world, most of the clubs and organizations I've been in are the same way, but there its 90% of the work gets done by 10% of the members.

I don't post very often because I would rather listen to what others are saying about the tools they use and what they are building. I'm on a fixed income now and I don't have very much extra money to buy new tools or even lumber.

I do like to here what is going on in woodworking in the UK.

Powertool
All good and useful stuff and well made.
Compared to my first go on the lathe your practise piece is a work of art
Regards and welcome.
