I was going to scrap this and restart when the birch ply arrives, but I decided to finish it tonight, and now I'll scrap it. (hammer)

Unless you are using what wood you can for something else I wouldn't scrap it.
If it only goes to a charity shop it will give enjoyment to someone.
Just my thoughts, obviously it's your decision

Don't worry guys, I'm not really going to scrap it, I have too many hours in it to do that. Having said that, when I was about 1/3rd the way through and the top ply began coming off, I came close to chucking it in the bin. If you click the photo to enlarge it, you can see the damage at the top of the cab directly above the front left wheel. I was originally going to give it to the owner of the bus, (assuming he would accept it), but I'm not happy enough with it to give it away so I'll keep it for myself.
Thanks for all the comments.

Martin.
Looks good to me, I am sure the owner of the bus would be over the moon with it.

Did you use the photo as is to make the cut out, or did you convert it to a line image first.

Take care.

Chris,
The line drawing pattern was made for me by Ray (EIEIO) on Steve Good's forum. All I had to do was add a few bridges to make it easier for me to cut.

Looks a bit better after I glued it to an MDF backing, which I sprayed satin black, cleaned the edges up and went over it with some beeswax.

put it in a fame and hang it up and look at it every day, it will remind you where your cutting started..

i really like it, time well spent..

This had a good ending. We went to Whitby today and gave the steam bus portrait to the bus owner. He was very pleased with it and said it would be going on his lounge wall. We had a free ride around Whitby on the bus with his wife, who acts as conductor and tour guide, showing the piece to the other passengers and pointing me out. Me was very red and suitably embarrassed. Glad he liked it though.

Martin.

P.S. My wife spotted a complete Hobbies Gem outside a shop for 65 quid. The long Pitman link was broken and the movement felt stiff, and it needed a lick of paint, but I reckon it would have easily made a good saw. I'm glad I didn't have 65 quid in my pocket. :)

Martin what a great end to the project,I should imagine that you got a lot of satisfaction in giving your project to the gentleman and his wife. Also that you know that it has gone to a good home.

Well done Bryan

Martin.
Good to see you made the bus owner/custodian happy, these type of people are the ones that appreciate the work that goes into making such projects, !oops! I suppose that’s our generation. The all made of plastic, computer generation don’t know what they are missing.

As others have said, you know its going to be appreciated and probably passed to the next generation, that could be the next custodian of the bus.

I can imagine your embarrassment being on the bus and pointed out as the maker, I have always been happy to be the backroom out of site man. 8-[

Take care.

Chris R.
