I've been using sketchup 8 for ages and am beginning to get the hang of it. For ages it's been saying an update is available for certain functions. I've just gone to update it and have several options.
Sketchup pro 2016
Sketchup make 2016
Sketchup viewer
Sketchup pro 2015
Sketchup pro 2014

Which version are you all using. I'm a little hesitant to update it incase it dramatically changes and means learning everything again.

I'm using the free version at the moment and it's done everything I've ever needed.
Thanks

Coley

Looking at this with interest as had a problem after updating some years ago and thought the free version had gone. Still can only access the version in mm through old saved files and modifying them.

Coley, DON'T UPDATE, Its not worth the hassle. I've been using it since it first came out and it has never failed to produce what I want. I'm using v8.0.11752 which I think is the last update before it was taken over by Trimble. There is no point in chasing updates unless they provide what you desperately need to use.

Hi - sketchup make is free, sketchup pro is a 30 trial which can be difficult to change back to the free version afterwards.

So you can upgrade to make 2016 just fine :)

If you have any plugins installed updating sketchup can be a real pain as quite often the old plugin no longer works and you discover that the author got fed up of issuing updates for it and packed it in.

Go ahead and update to SketchUp 2016, Coley. There's no reason to trade one unsupported version for another.

You can choose a metric template when you start up or you can change the units to mm under Window-Model Info and make your own template. This is the same as it has always been.

I have to say that I find Fusion 360 much better than Sketchup - I've never looked back since moving.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. The only largish niggle with my current version is I can't access the model/warehouse thingy.
So 'Sketchup make' is just the same as the old 'sketchup 8' just renamed ?

Many thanks for your pm, much appreciated.

I too keep mysteriously getting logged out of the 3D warehouse and it's so damned annoying continuously having bother logging back in I can't see me sticking with sketchup much longer.

See this regarding the 3D Warehouse with SketchUp 8. Note the change happened over a year ago. That article was written several months before the actual change.

Not at all. There have been many improvements in the years since SketchUp 8.
