Hi,

Im looking to start making a few small things (coasters etc) and possibly doing some glass etching.

I was at a show the other day and saw the Dremel Moto Saw, which looked great for cutting the wood, but I was wondering if something like a DREMEL 3000-6/45 be better for me to start off with.

Is there anything similar/better on the market?

any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

A straight die grinder or a grinding motor with a flexible shaft would be a much better choice. These tools are suitable to continuous use and can handle large tool shaft diameters (1/4", 8mm), so you could use industrial tooling with them.

Best wishes,

János

if you go down the die grinder route, the Bosch P50 and P500 with removable bases are in effect die grinders. But not sure if there is a variable speed versiosn now.

If you are looking for something small for very detailed work, I recommend the Wecheer engravers. The 18v model is brilliant, but not for fast removal. The Proxxon range is good, especially their mini angle grinders, though I have had issues with overheating when used continuously, especially with a mini Arbortech blade. I've had to buy the Wecheer direct from their Far East base, or from Woodcraft in the US. Tom Lie-Nielsen uses one to 'autograph' planes he sells at shows.
