I'm looking for a mitre saw to build a shelf unit, workbench and bed.

The budget is small £150 max and so far have been looking at the following:

Makita MLS100 - toolstation £134.85

Evolution Fury3 210mm Sliding Mitre Saw - B and Q £110.48

Evolution Stealth Rage 255mm - Screwfix £169 (bit over!) - alot of the sf evolution saws seem out of stock with SF

or anything else (not second hand)?

any recommendations much welcomed!

I'm very happy with my evolution. I don't really do fine work mostly garden, built a bench, that sort of stuff but i recent used it to mitre some architrave and it was fine.

Hi ade1, thanks for the link for the metabo - looks like it would be great, really want to save up for a proper table saw, this as an interim measure hopefully would be fine - 3 year warranty too. wondering if i should spend a bit more and get the sliding model @ £178 Metabo KGS216

Dodge - thanks for your suggestion - yes I looked at this but i want it powered really

tinbasher - the evolutions look good, what put me off if the supplied blade and the cost of replacements

I've recently got a Metabo KGS216 and it's fsntastic for the money, nice and accurate, good capcity and trenching/laser/light work well. The bolt for the trenching is a bit flimsy but I just replaced it with a longer bolt so I can get deeper trenching. Really pleased with mine - well worth the extra money.

Hi Unib,

thanks for the post - good to know its a good machine - it looks to be exactly the same motor etc on both models just one slides.

how is the supplied 40 tooth blade ? I assume as your happy it cuts true - what i was concerned about with the sliding ones?
did you use toolstop? if so were they any good?
cheers

I have the KGS255 plus. Fantastic machine. Very accurate and solid. I rate all the Metabo gear.

Personally I have found the older blue ones to me more rigid that the newer green ones, that said the newer green ones are very good still.

To be honest I didn't even try the 40 tooth blade - I changed it straight away for something finer (not sure what I went for but I can check tomorrow for you if it helps). Yes it cuts true and is nice and smooth when it slides. I did get mine from Toolshop (but through their ebay shop). They were great; next day delivery =D>

thanks for the comments - think i will get the non sliding Metabo KS216 for use in the interim and save for a proper table saw. Hopefully the little saw will still be useful to have around!

cheers
