Can anyone tell me when hardboard was first used in furniture , I was stripping down an old around 1940s/50s dressing table and cupboard the cream type with gold coloured embelishments and was supprised to find both tops were 1/2" hardboard quite heavy the first i can remember seeing used was 1960s Barry Bucknell paneling doors

There’s loads on the web about hardboard, wiki makes for interesting reading Masonite - Wikipedia
according to that it was first used in furniture in the 30’s
