I picked up some wood from the 99p bin in Yandles yesterday and couldn't get an answer on what wood it is. Can anyone on here help? I've surrounded it with some known wood to help make the colour a bit clearer.

The plank on the left is maple, the offcut on the right is oak, the bit at the top is B&Q softwood, presumably pine. The workbench underneath is B&Q hardwood faced plywood.

Any ideas?

What sort of oak then? It's a very different colour to the oak that's sitting next to it (or any of the other bits of oak I bought at the same time from Yandles).

That's definitely red oak. Definitely positively certainly. I bought a whole floor of it once for a few pennies, out of a skip, so I'm very familiar with the stuff. Don't use it on anything outside.
