Relative density would also depend on growth rate, Alder grown in Scotland may be denser than any grown in England as it could be slower growing.

Yes I understand that, think the Company that manufactured the snooker table were an English Company but obviously the wood used could have come from anywhere in the world lol. As I said with the mahogany weight seems to vary hugely, some of the older bits I have are very heavy, not sure how old because I don't know the age of the houses they are coming out of or when they were first fitted in that house, some I do know the dates fitted as some had a label on with Company that fitted them & date, earliest label I found was early seventies if I remember correctly.
