I'm going to have my first ever stand at a local village xmas fate this year and I guess the theme will be things of a xmas tree decoration or xmas pressie's. Wondered if anyone has experience of what people like to buy at these events? I don't want to spend 2 months turning stuff that misses the mark so was hoping I could learn from your experiences and speed up time.

Many thanks

Some ideas in this thread Rob xmas-craft-fairs-t64812.html

I was asked to do the local village one again this year but said no to it. We've got a planning application in at the moment that has made us a bit unpopular with parts of the village so think I'll just keep a low profile this year

Cheers, Paul

Tends to be pot luck on the day Rob, depending on who turns up, particularly if it is a small local do with limited footfall.

Also depends on how close to Xmas it is, whether there is a mad dash for last minute presents !

Having said that, from memory I sold a large nested set of walnut salad bowls, a good few tea light holders, some smaller "loose change" type bowls, keyrings and mushrooms mainly I think, oh and some wooden eggs !

I imagine seasonal decorations would go well but I never really figured out what to do in that line.

Tend to find that people go for things with a purpose rather than just decorative or arty, but that might change depending on the profile of the people in the area of your craft fair I guess.

So, a bit of a lottery really

Cheers, Paul

Bob what about some nice bowls from various burrs. They always look special and I'm sure would sell.

As said it is very much pot luck in my experience. Loads of smaller things sell well as stocking fillers, tops, keyrings, small bowls, table centres, anything to do with candles and T lights tens to go well usually. Apart from that it depends on who is there on the day. I do very few craft fairs now as all too often the type of things for sale tend to be cheap jewellery cards, knitted things etc and quality woodturning that has prices beyond £20 attract attention but don't sell. This is my experience however and someone else in a different part of the country m,ay find that they go well. Oh yes pens(which I don't do) seem to sell well as also.

Did the one on our village last year, keyrings, small items & a couple of the more expensive pens went.
Larger bowls of Mallee Burr & the kind were admired but carried home again. As were the t-light, table centre pieces etc. Surprisingly, for up here, the bottle stoppers only sold 1, I guess once the bottles opened it get's drunk in the oner so no need for a stopper.

It all depends on the people in the village & how discerning they are I suppose but this year I am taking more key rings / touchscreen stylus things / pens & just a few larger items to fill out the stall.

Think I got the screw eyes and key rings from screwfix Rob, very cheap, but if you want to upmarket I think Axi' and similar do the kits with more fancy fixings which can be nice but mean you need to raise the sale price accordingly ?

Cheers, Paul

A couple of keyrings and the touch screen stylus things

At the Xmas Fair I did last year my sales were nearly all lightpull, lightpulls, crochet hooks and a few drop spindles and tealights. I was told by the customers that most were being bought as gifts. With the lightpulls, the wood they were made of was the important thing. Holly being the most popular! Larger items (bowls, vases, platters etc) were admired but not bought - although as some customers admitted they were buying gifts for family abroad, I imagine weight may have had something to do with this!
