what timber?

Hi guys, thought you might like to see this unusual marking.
I found this branch in a local wood.

Well, it's spalted and could well be maple or sycamore?

Not too good a photo. Any chance of another, more side on and a bit bigger?

I think you're right John,but my vote on that would be maple, the sycamore that I've got that is not brilliant white has tinges of grey to it as part of the spalting process, I have got a heap of spalted maple and it looks just like this
