Yep, its Christmass time again, well sort off (it only comes three times a year  )
Christmass
Birthday
Fathers Day
(In that order)

The only time when its legally safe to buy some tools without feeling bad

I have on order some planes and finally the Record dust extractor (well that thing was about 6 months overdue anyway)

and what have you Guys in the pipeline for Sunday

Mcluma,
isn't buying them for yourself defeating the object? I also add wedding anniversary to that list just so that I can get something in the autumn.

I've ticked and crossed a few items in the Axminster and Ashley Isles catalogues as per usual and will wait and see what turns up.

Andy

No, that is being clever-and saving money

If I don't tell the kids and the wife what to get me, they will just buy stuff you don't want
like
Magazines
ties
socks
underwear
etc

But to put the anniversary on the list, well I think that is pushing it

That's where highlighting a few items in a few catalogues comes in. My wife then places the orders for the whole family ( at Xmas & b'days this includes both sets of parents and families ) which saves on minimum order postage charges. They all get the presents and then wrap them up and I get a genuine surprise - well nearly.

I am perfectly happy to have a day exclusively with the family; no outside influences or chores or 'to do' lists are allowed to intrude. Why commercialise the day with hardware? You can't take it with you...and our children are with us for such a short time really.

Sam, father of three and taximan to all their friends.

Presents to and from family have been replaced with charitable donations these days - usually livestock or bees. Grandkids get donations to their college fund, and 'tokens of affection'. We have simply given up competing with everyone else - and the parents really appreciate it.

I'm past the greed stage now. Sometimes another clamp would be useful, but there's always another way - how about a piece of string and a stick?

We're even selling our stuff -- books, CD's, old toys etc all making a handsome contribution to the future holiday home in Greece from various auction and sales sites. Finally downsizing - wife gets to keep her art stuff, and I keep the contents of the workshop, plus we keep the motorbike and the Bentley for fun.

Anyone in here who would actually be thinking of sending me something for Fathers' Day, please send a donation to charity instead. What, you weren't thinking of that????

then you must have all the tools under the sun

Ah, I wish! :(

Interesting that you can have a Bentley for far less than a Mondeo, though few realise it. Of course it's not a new Bentley, but even a 15 year old one is far better than a brand new Mondeo. Costs less, insurance is cheap, servicing is no more than my BMW (serviced last week for £190 - pretty good these days) and on a run I get over 20mpg. Yes, that last bit can hurt if you do lots of miles, but what the heck - one day there will be no more oil and I might as well enjoy driving around in an armchair on wheels while I can! :p I make up for my polluting ways by riding the motorcycle more often than driving the car... Ahh, a BMW as well... :-k Crumbs, Brian, cut down to one small hatchback and think of all the money you save that you could give to the charity of your choice.

Cheers, Alf

You forgot the other BMW (I have both motorcycle AND car - no pic of the latter)........

Please vist http://www.heifer.org/ A small gift of just over £10 (and where can you buy a decent tool for that paltry sum?) will buy a basket of chicks for a family in need. If you want to give a real heifer, you could always forgo the chopsaw for a while...

Thank you.

SammieQ,

I have enjoyed a super day in the same vein as you - no pressies expected, wanted or given - just three lovely well chosen cards and the company of those of the family who could get here. :D :D :D

Bit hot though, so I'm going to cool down with a nice single malt in the garden in a mo.

Cheers,

Trev.

Today I received the best Fathers day gift any son could wish for.

Called in on the way home from work tonight to see Mam stuck in Hospital for the last three weeks being very low and I mean low

Starting this week she is being treated for TB and it seems to be working for her
Because, she got out of bed unaided and walked to the toilet something I have not seen for the last ten weeks

Pure Gold

Bit hot though, so I'm going to cool down with a nice single malt in the garden in a mo.

Im chilling with that yellow apple fluid made in Hereford . Yumm!

Hi SP,

That really was a good day for you and your Mam. :D Best wishes for her continuing progress and recovery.

That refreshing apple fluid? Our nearest neighbours are the orchards surrounding us from which it originates!

Cheers,

Trev.

Good news SP

For father's day, no tools but two books

One on the Fibonacci series (fantastic book) and one on the physics of time travel :D

My kids know me only too well

I'll get me coat....

Tony,
Will you please go back a few years and get me a couple of Norris planes please? I expect other folk will have a few things they would like too!
