My current regime is aluminum oxide down to 180 and silicone carbide for anything finer. Just got some Arbonet for the random orbit and that does seem like a good product and got me wondering what else is available for machines and hand use.

Pretty much Abranet on everything at all grits. Sometimes 3M Hook It discs,
Been avoiding cheap stuff for ages, it's not worth the hassle.

Sait- better than mirka stuff (except belts). Pick and choose what thickness paper/card. Good value

The thing is Abranet is 50% fresh air so shouldn't it be half the cost of other abrasives?

On that theory, lacy knickers should be cheaper than plain ones!

I like your thinking...

Thanks all.

A unanimous thread. Not like discussing sharpening :D

Maybe Jacob has a view to put forward, then BB can say the opposite and off we go

I am another for abranet by the way

Abrasives generally seem a lot better these days than the ones I remember from twenty or thirty years ago. Those older papers used to clog up or wear out in two seconds flat. Nowadays abrasives like Abranet or Festool's Brilliant 2 seem to go on and on.

I would agree about Abranet but with a slight query about it's longevity. If you want to go old school with sanding block and paper I heartily recommend Indasa's Rhynalox aluminium oxide sheets. They really are the bees knees, especially the 400 and 500 grit for rubbing down between coats, they just keep on going without clogging. Their sander discs are good too, but their belts are rubbish

Chris

I like abranet, weird that I have to order it from germany to get something for my sander (festool rts-400) when the main factory of Mirka is less than 100km north of me.
