Hi I’m new on here, I was wondering if anyone knows the proper name of this clamp/press? I’ve been looking around on the internet but I can’t find it.

Looks like a book press.
For compressing the leafs.

Good bit of kit, I have used one for restoring veneers wood pictures.

Taking a chance here..........

Isn't it the newest latest must-have-tool....an abrasive sheet flattener..
"No more curled edges on ones 800 lubrasil"

Or is it one of those lettuce leaf flattners by Alesi?
"No more messy looking sandwiches, gives you the professional edge....buy one today !"

Thank goodness its Friday :D

Yep what the others say, a bookbinding press.
I have one I bought probably 40 years ago and it's so heavy I can hardly lift the thing, I used it for clamping up marquetry pictures. They are limited in capacity but can exert huge pressure.

They fetch good money as collector pieces - or expensive door stops.

Dentists used to use smaller versions to make false teeth. My buddy has one and has never used it for anything yet. I suspect it will be used to press a bearing or two someday.

Pete
