The world is coming to the point where we cant trust someone to use something with common sense. So we have to regulate.
Be surprised he was in trouble though, as it wont have been his own can (not allowed to transport it on the chopper) so it will have been on the rig and the coshh assessment should have been in the coshh file. What he might have been done for though is not doing a JSA and stating he would be using aerosols possibly in a confoned space or near live electrical equipment or in a hazardous zone.

Odour of the mancave.:)

Mate of mine got redcarded on a big building site in london one summer for lifting his helmet up to wipe the sweat out of his eyes. Not kidding. Escorted off site.
I personally had a running battle with an H/S guy who was trying to make us wear goggles and those dimple yellow gloves. I said, but I'm cleaning windows mate. With my hands in a bucket of water, what's going to happen to your gloves then? All blustering till some senior management guy walked past and told him to be sensible. He went very quiet. I'm all for sensible H/S btw.

Wd40 and GT85 are slightly different.

WD40 Is a water dispersant.

GT85 is a water dispersant but with added PTFE (teflon) so for things you want work smoothly in the future GT85 is a better option.

Another good lube is liquid grease or semi-fluid grease. Spray on and stays on good for vice threads and pillar drill shafts etc.

The cycling forums have all the tech info in you want them..

Cheers James

I got hauled across the coals by a H&S guy for bouncing kegs of a loading bay onto a dolly bag and into a cellar - it was supposedly dangerous (I did have it off to a fine art - I could send them twenty or thirty feet to where I wanted them.. ) I suggested to the boss that he wrote back and asked how they thought draymen got them off the drays - we heard nothing more.

I developed eczema on my hands years ago and nothing helped, I had to take apart a rusty machine and got covered in wd40, thought dung this will hurt. Next morning my hands were brilliant and smooth no Itch, have used wd40 as a hand cream from then on when skins bad and it gets sorted brilliant stuff.

H&S Guy wanted COSSH assessments for:-

Bio Feed plant food in someone's desk
Tipex

Got very short shrift from Senior manager and a trip to Coventry from the rest of us. This included missing him out on emails re drinks after work etc!!

We had prepared for a possible RA for beer flavoured colonic irrigation!!
