I normally apply black bison wax with a cloth and buff off with a second. I am wondering whether to get a brush for buffing.

Liberon do a couple- a wax polishing brush and a furniture brush. Chestnut do a similar one to the furniture brush. All are around 16 quid.

Are they worth the money? Is there anything else that will do the job. It seems a lot if money for a big shoe shine brush, but I don't suppose that I will wear many out in my life so if it is worthwhile I will have to pay the money.

is this the brush with a kind of one piece wooden handle on top? If so, yes they are dear but very effective. They spread the wax out and get rid of the smears. I think shoes brushes are too soft and dont bite into the surface. Therefore IMO not an overpriced gimmick (of which there are many!) They do last a long time but do get clogged with wax. Solution is too stand in a foil tray full of white spirit overnight then let dry. The bristles in my experience have never flattened. I'm guessing the cost is due to the quality of the bristles....

Thanks. I will treat myself- it is the type with the handle on top.

I have one of these brushes, I have been using it for about twenty years or so, it is okay, the curved sole is useful and it fits in the hand well, I use it mostly for buffing turnings and carvings. A much better brush is an old clothes brush, you will only find one in a charity shop or car boot but the quality and quantity of the bristles makes them superb for buffing wax. I have two, one I use for buffing wax and the other I keep clean for brushing upholstery and baize. I think I paid no more than £2.00 each for them.
