hi, a friend of mine has decided to convert his garage into a hot tub room (yes he has more money than sense). there is very little space for the hot tub and i'm cladding the walls in redwood cladding. the walls come down to the top of the hot tub. i'm looking for suggestions for a suitable finish to put on the cladding, obviously it must be waterproof and he doesn't want to darken it at all.

thanks in advance for any suggestions you have.

IME, any waterproofing WILL darken the wood to some extent.

And I THINK I'm right in saying that using cedar or sweet chestnut would remove the need to waterproof (and therefore maintain periodically with rubbing down and new coats)

are you saying that it doesn't actually need waterproofing, i could just put an oil finish on it like danish oil? personally id rather do that than have some horrible plasticy looking stuff on it. and im aware that any finish will darken wood slightly, what i mean is i don't want the finish to have any colour in it. cheers
