Hi

I have an old Swedish "Wallins" chisel that is redeemable but I'm wondering if they're any good? Anyone know anything about them? Someone has made a bit of a mess of the back so rather than waste a lot of my time flattening it I thought I'd ask if it was worth it first. If it's made of cheese I won't bother

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Chances are that if it is old, it is good. Add to that being old and Swedish, and it is probably a great chisel.

It is possible that the steel only came from a small number (couple) of different foundries if it is pre-1960s.

I haven't run into a Swedish (older) chisel that I have not liked. At least as long as someone didn't take the temper out from grinding. Which if so, it can be retempered.

Lovely, thanks Mike! :D

In that case I'll flatten the back and see what it's like.

I have one.

THey are made by Berg and stamped "Wallin's" Very nice steel and worth keeping provifing nobody has damaged the temper with excessive grinding or something like that.
