I bought a Viceroy lathe some months ago and I am impressed, good capacity and really solid. The bed would suit a metal lathe, it is that solid.

So I was surprised to see one sell on fleabay today for £145, complete with faceplates and chuck. I couldn't see from the pictures if everything was complete but still, what an absolute bargain, and half the price I paid for mine.

They're low at the moment - there was a variable speed Graduate with a decent chuck that went for Something like £420 and a huge American one went for £400 and something. Viceroys and Jubilees always seem to be decent enough buys - it seems a good time to buy stuff that's not ultra modern and pretty.

You're right there Phil. Modern lathes have variable speed, but at these prices you can get a professional quality machine that will probably last a lifetime, add a 3 phase inverter and you have variable speed as well.

As a matter of interest, are you the gentleman who sold me a Myford ML8 motor mounting plate a few weeks ago?

Ok, just wondering. I have had a ML8 for over 30 years and have 'managed' with a home made mock up of a mounting bracket ever since, but recently bought the proper item at a sensible price. Very glad to get it and will fit it soon. I was going to say thanks.
