Hello there,
I'm after some pearls of wisdom about how to solve a problem I've got with my Record/Irwin plain screw vice.
As the vice is opened either one, or sometimes both, of the unthreaded bars remain stationary and pull out of the front jaw.
Many thanks

The problem is the new record tools are made in Taiwan and are not of the high quality of the old record tools. Those bars should not come out. How old is the vice.

On a older record vice i removed those bars and they took a lot of pressing out
I would imagine getting someone with a metalworking lathe to knurl the bar thats loose and then loctite it in

Depending on how slack the fitting is you could try some "bearing fit" used to lock bearing races into housings on machines. Alternately maybe peening the bar ends over might work, but as stated above if its new then send it back!.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate the advice. Unfortunately sending it back is not an option as I've had it awhile and it 'was' working fine.
I'll try the peening / Loctite suggestions and see how it goes.......
