Would these spec bolts be suitable for fixing an old (made in England) Record 52 to the bottom of a bench? Vices holes are not threaded, depth looks good.

UNF 1/4 X 1 1/2" hex setscrew.

I understand the consensus is whitworth but these are half the price as far as I can see. Done a bit of research. American versus British standards. I'm not to fussed. Will they work?
Sorry to seem a little terse. just realised I've spent an hour odd learning about US/UK screw variations. Bloody Internet.
Cheers!
Regards,
Chris

The holes for mounting to the underside of the bench top aren't threaded, like you say, the bolts can therefore be any thread you like, it doesn't matter ! :)

The bench top thickness and the vice mounting plate thickness together will determine the length to use, but the longer the better. The other approach would be to use coach bolts through the complete bench top thickness and countersunk into the top.

The holes that are threaded are the ones in the front and back jaw plates to take wooden jaw liners, but to be honest I didn't bother trying to match up the old fashioned threads there and just used coach screws that fit, held up fine for many years now.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul!
Great help mate.
Simple question, simple answer. Fantastic.

Chris

Edit, the holes in my front and rear jaw plates aren't threaded strangely. Not an issue. Thanks again.

Yeh, I seen that Phil, thanks. I'm building the bench (slowly) at the moment so I'm doing it the easier way. Upside down. Cheers. :D

I'm trying to second guess for off cuts, wastage and so on. I'm sure it will be ok. I'm done worrying about this bench malarky. Just want to enjoy building it now.

Mine aren't either. Older vices had threaded holes, newer ones don't.

I used M10 coach bolts and drilled clearance holes in the bench top out to 13mm to allow some wiggle room.
