A recent project (made for Christmas). The tray bases are 4mm ply veneered top and bottom and finished with 2 coats of Rustin's plastic coating, flattened with 0000 wire wool and wax, in the hope that this will wear better than their predecessors, which had bases of white faced hardboard. One is oak with cross banding in aspen, the other cherry with cross banding in oak. Both have ash veneer on the underside. The frames are beech, finished with hard wax oil. The construction uses through dovetails with mitred tops. The handle apertures were cut with the router. The bases are rebated into the frames and held in place with home-made beech quadrant moulding, pinned and glued.

A shot of the 3rd tray base being scraped flat after emerging from the veneer press (tray unfinished as yet). This one is cherry and maple, with banding in black walnut and cross banding in cedar of Lebanon.

Very nice work there, its funny but there is something quite pleasing about making a tray and they are not as simple as they sometimes look.

I like the detail in the veneering that you have done.

This one was made for a client shortly before Christmas and had its own challenges
