Im in the middle of building some kitchen units for a customer that have vee grooved end panels as shown below. Ive made them from 18mm MR mdf and they are being painted all round before i fit them. The vee's are about 6mm deep and when I was routing them I had a feeling they may cause the panel to bow and they have. Only slightly at the moment. They are being screwed to an 18mm mfc carcase so Im guessing that will sort them out and i might be worrying over nothing.

So what do you think leave it and dont worry ?

or I could put a few vee's in the back to balance it (Id rather not unless I really need to)

Leave it
Next time dont go as deep and you will not have the problem

I wouldn't have gone that deep but it had to match some existing units.

I thought it wasn't worth worrying in the end. My painter has collected it all now so I will see how it goes when I've fitted it all.

Cheers

Just out of interest and unrelated to the topic (apologies). Where do you buy that cabinet grade particle board that has the pre-veneered laminate on. I've looked all over to find that stuff!

Cheers

I use cutwrights in hanworth. Just down the road from me. They have an online cutlist you fill out then click send and in no time at all you get a quote through.

They cut and edge and even do hole drilling if needed. They supply medite mdf and the mfc is egger.

Brilliant.......many thanks for that. Im assuming the chipboard is beter quality than the regular stuff. I always notice that whenever I'm reusing kitchen carcass material for other uses (jigs usually)...the chipboard is really dense and cuts well (well good enough for chipboard anyway).

I would think that melamine faced material is great for router table tops. Can you get it in inch thicknesses or just 3/4 and below?

I buy mine from NESP in the north East but it comes in 2800 x 2060 x 18mm sheets. If it's only for router tables etc. it's worth doing a search for any local kitchen carcase manufacturersas they always have loads of surplus large offcuts left over from jobs. Often of no use dure to being obscure colours etc.
Costs money to get rid of so a friendly enquiry will usually be good for a free supply :)

I wouldn't use melamine for a router table its not hard wearing enough. Formica is thicker and tougher.
