Using drill press as mortiser

Short answer, NO.
The outer chisel does not rotate but must be moved up and down with the auger.
But there are attachments that will fit some drill presses to allow the cutting of mortises.

don't waste your money!!

i bought one of these drill stand attachments and they are not much use - I still have it somewhere but bought a dedicated morticer instead.

If you really want to try one, I'll see if I still have it and if I do, you can have it for a tenner
 
I'll take that under advisement and buy a dedicated mortiser...

And yet more questions from the uninitiated!

I am right in presuming head height is the max distance between the base and the mortiser chisel end. That being the widest piece of timber I could get in to mortise?

Say I wanted to mortise a 6" board for a mirror joint, couldnt do it with that machine...

sorry for yet more obvious questions gents.

if you do a search onthe foirum, you will find a mod I made to my morticer to allow an X-Y vice to fit in it and give me slightly more depth - the mod cost a few pounds
