SWMBO's birthday returns again soon. She has expressed an interest in upholstery as we have a couple of dining chairs that need attention. Can any of you knowledgeable souls recommend a book and suggest what basic tools are required for a beginner please?
Thank you in anticipation.
Martin.

You won’t go far wrong with Cherry Dobson’s Upholsterers Bible as a good reference.

In terms of tools, a decent staple gun - manual will do, sharp scissors and a flat layout surface. Melamine panels are ideal as they let the fabric slide. Depending on how tall Mrs MorrisWoodman is, a lift table is useful that brings the base you’re working on to just above waist height - nice practical woodworking project for you !

Dependent on chair construction:
webbing stretcher
various double ended needles
curved needles
tack ripper
magnetic tack hammer
glue gun
large scissors
tailors chalk & sharpener
Upholstery regulator
upholstery pins (about 3” long)
metre stick - wooden or metal
