Hi,

I have been given a union graduate lathe along with about 24 chisels numerous sizes of face plates and different rests.
My question is a simple one which way do I turn attachments to remove / attach them to the headstock, I assume it's anti clockwise to attach and clockwise to undo.
Would rather double check before causing damage by turning the wrong way.

Thanks for looking.

Not trying to be clever, but it depends which side of the headstock they are attached to! If you are standing facing the lathe in "normal" position, then the right hand end of the headstock has a normal right hand thread, so screw/unscrew things in the usual way, but the left hand end, away from the main bed, is left hand threaded.
And you are a very lucky bunny to be "given" what is possibly the finest of the British-made lathes for amateur use; treasure it  .

Thanks for the reply, I was looking from the tailstock towards the headstock.
So the answer you have given is exactly what I was looking for.

Next step is to turn something and upload a picture.
