I have a compressor bu I normally use rustolum black in a can for the motor it’s much more convenient this is one I’ve just finished.

This is how mine is looking, I have yet to wire up the switch which is a new addition. The repaint I did about 15 years ago

Thanks for sharing the photos I've now got a target/standard to aim for. Been decorating a bedroom so this project is being delayed - have started removing the bed bar rust using a scotch brite cylinder shape medium grit (that I rediscovered part worn in the shed) on an arbor in my drill - seems to be bringing it up ok. Your paint is a lot darker than my one.
