I see the ladies have a second series of a sewing competition running Tuesday evenings bbc2.

I reckon they could do one with woodwork and in a fully decked workshop and store of timber on the same basis.

Perhaps some male chauvinist bloke could have a go at the bbc.

Hi,
I must admit to watching some of these "competition" programmes.
But I am a cynical old B*****R.
I think the producers, researchers, cameramen etc have a much bigger influence on the finished programme
than it appears. "You will have to drop that tray of cakes on the floor again, the camera missed it the first time".
It has to be entertainment rather than reality!

I know it's not a competition type program series, but there's always Norm Abrahams. I used to enjoy those and have recorded quite a few of them. There was a UK version called something like Boyz is the Wood. I watched a few of them, but they just didn't compare with Norm. Not worth recording.

We were asked to go on “may the best house win” what a set up, you were told what to say, and what marks to give. Never do it again.

There was a series in the US called the All American Handyman. It was hosted by that big Canadian geezer whose name escapes me right now. The only reason I know is because my old chippy mate that emigrated in 98 was in it :)

He got to the 4th round ie 4th programme. He said it was absolutely gruelling and in every sense a true and real competiton. They had to build something different under "exam" conditions every week with a fair bit of variety. To give you an idea the first week was an Adirondack chair with no plans! The one that killed my mate was a decking build, he just couldn't keep up with the guys 20 years younger than him in physical strength. I'll see if I can dig out his original application, I think he posted it on youtube. Its very well done.

I see no reason at all why we couldn't do a legitimate competition in something woody here which would make reasonable entertainment. There were 3 women in this US show too, perfectly competent at the craft too.
