tv unit top

Quick question??

I'm building a tv unit with a veneered plywood top. I've used dowels for locating the table to and two of the shelf supports in the middle of the unit.

My question is?? when I come to attach the top can I just glue it straight on using the dowels or will I need to loosely attach it for movement?

The top won’t move much but your sides might depending on material and grain direction
