I am continually amazed at what you guys have to pay for your gear over there; 700 pounds for an 8” saw, isn’t that about $1100usd or so?

When you say you can’t get a cast iron saw for 700, what would it cost for something like what we would call a (cast iron, 10”) low end contractor type or a dewalt 746?

Phil,

The cost of decent specification machinery in the UK is horrible compared with the USA. A DW746 with all the extras will run to about £2,000 if discounted. The DW744 portable 8", also available in the USA, costs £699 inc stand/extensions. I saw one at Sears this year for $499, although no extensions/stand at that price.

I get to the USA a few times a year on business, and always take a look in Sears and/or other stores when they're nearby. I guess everywhere has it's good and bad points

Merry Christmas from the land of expensive woodworking tools!
