Mornng all,
The part of the try-square that one holds is called the stock, I believe. What's the other part called? Is it the blade? Doesn't sound right, as it is not sharp, but I can't think of anything else!

I think 'blade' is right, from memory. Here's one for you: what's a 'rack catch plunger release catch cam'?? :) Best said out loud, in a sing song manner...
 
I've always called it the blade. Dunno where that came from though. Probably my Dad
