Hello,

I have a Triton TRB001 in my table, and I read that the Newer TRA001/TRB001 routers can accept the replacement part for the MOF001 1/4" collet. I purchased the MOF001 Replacement collet and it's a completely different assembly (it seems)

Here is my 1/2" collect unscrewed from the Router:

Here is the replacement collect for the MOF001 router next to it:

Can someone advise me which way round I have it. Is there a Triton replacement 1/4" collet available that fits my Router? Or will I need to go with a reducer?

I've read reducers are a last resort measure? I'm concerned about the safety of using a 1/4" reducer but I need to be able to use 1/4" bits in my table and I love the TRB001 router, So do I have an older/newer version of this model? Which version of the 1/2" triton router is capable of accepting the MOF001 Collet?

Thanks!

i assume the chuck doesnt come off ?
to then fit the 1\4 assembly

Not that I can see! the 1/2" collet actually has a thread on the collet itself, whereas the 1/4" collet from the MOF001 has a collet and then a collet nut with a thread on it to tighten against the bit.

There's conflicting information on the internet regarding what is the "Old" TRA/TRB001 and whether the MOF001's 1/4" collet should fit a brand new TRA001 if I were to go and buy a replacement.

Thanks

I use reducers when I need to use the odd smaller cutter. If I was running 1/4 or 8mm cutters all the time on a 1/2" router I would buy a chuck, but have never had a problem using a reducer.

I have a Freud 2000 something or other 1/2" router and I have had problems with the bit slipping using the 1/4" reducer. It's not just the safety, I've never has a dangerous incident as the bit tends to slip in and out, the problem is that it ruins your work.

You have the old version of the TRA/B/C 001 router, the collet you've bought only fits the newer version (and the JOF / MOF variants I think).
There's a discussion about it here :

Tritons model numbering seems a bit random - mine was actually boxed as a TRC 001 which is described as "even older" in the linked discussion (tho I bought it just a few a few months ago) but it has the new style collet!

Just in case anyone finds this helpful, I ended up swapping out my TRA001 with a new MOF001 for the time being, partly because it ended up being nearly a straight swap using eBay, and also because one day I want the MOF001 for handhelf reouting and the TRA001 back in the table but hopefully with all the appropriate collets!
