Hi all

Watched Norm yesterday. He visited an old shaker woodworking shop - 1730's.

Forget traditional handtool construction, they had the biggest powered planer and thicknesser I have ever seen  about 7-8 foot long tables. The scroll saw and lathe were huge too :)

loads more - all powered from a waterwheel.

Power tools traditional? who'd have thought it :p :p

Tony also in the good olden days most power tools used for roughing out were called apprentices......don't see many of them these days either

Are you thinking of re-routing the river ??

Tony,

I've got a book called The Shaker Legacy by Christian Becksvoort (regular in FWW) which shows the Shakers driving one of the first automobiles of the day. Apparently they were into anything that would help them get their work done more effectively, they were just minimalist (and celibate :? ) while they were at it.
