Tormek SVD185 Gig

I have a Tormek svd185 jig and can use it with my bowl gouge fine, BUT not with my 3/8 spindle gouge. I can not clamp it in as the screw tightened disc hits the sides before it gets down to the gouge.

Try using it without the disc fitted.

Put a short section of Dowel in the flute.

I didn't know the disc could be removed.
I have removed the disc and also inserted a thin slat of wood between the screw and the gouge, this made it more stable and true. It all works fine.
Problem solved.

Just as an aside, Tormek have produced an upgrade, the SVD 186 which solves that problem with a better clamping solution. I also had problems clamping 1/4" gouges in the old one which the 186 overcomes. Lastly it has a series of detents and a hand operated knuckle screw now which are a considerable improvement

I appreciate its an expensive luxury but it's way way better than the old one
