Is there anywhere that hires woodturning tools? I have this huge chunk of burr elm I got with the lathe and would like to make the most of it. The best way would probably be to use a bowl coring set to split it up. It seems such a waste to hollow out all that nice timber and convert it to shavings.
I can't justify (or afford) a bowl coring system for this one bit of wood. It would be useful if a tool could be hired to allow me to save as much of this timber as possible.

I think your best option is to buy one, use it, then sell it (here or eBay ) as only used once. The difference between your buying and selling prices is your 'hire fee' without any need to get it back after a set number of days.

I brought the Woodcut Bowl Saver off eBay a few years ago, it was still quite expensive but it has easily paid for itself over the years by the amount of bowls that I have saved with it. It's a pity your so far away as I would have cored it for you.

Regards

Vic

Our turning club lends it to members on a monthly basis ie between sessions. You're asked to contribute a fiver to the kitty for the trouble. I would suggest you join your nearest club they are a considerable resource for knowledge, information and kit etc
