A bought 3 months ago i had a few logs given to me from the school behind my house they were cutting the trees down . So i put them in a dry shed and when i used them today i noticed on some of the logs had a sooty deposit on them but only on the one species of tree do you know what this could be ? I am only using the logs for x mas snow men for the school so not overly concerned Alan

Sycamore often gets a black sooty deposit on it. Think its a mould that forms between the bark and the wood. I see a lot of it when cutting logs for people.

yes i think it's sycamore and yes between the bark and the wood thanks'
