Morning,

I'd like to hear where you folks obtain your timber/material for your projects?

I've done a little searching for suppliers, but would be really interested to know where you all get yours from - the regular stuff and not so regular.

Cheers,

H

I buy my stuff from Travis Perkins. They are nice and reliable and you can get some good deals (if you hagle them down)

I predominantly use british hardwoods, have done for a number of years and find them ok.

Although I'm waiting to be invited for a trip to Totton Timber by Philly to check them out, but he's to busy gloating. :D :D :D

A Waka is a Maori war canoe.
The Haka is a war dance.
Whake means grand but wh in maori is pronouned 'f'.
As a pom living in ZN it took a while to get to grips with whaka in the maori language.

I didn't have a very good delivery experience with Good Timber at Nether Heyford, earlier this year.

I would only order again if I was able to visit the yard and take away at time of purchase.

Thanks for all the pointers. Chas' list was really helpful.

I'll have some time off in Aug and Sept, so will visit a few and see what the crack is.

:)

On the basis that at least one person found it useful, I will consider it worth the effort.

Howjoe Take note of the buying pointers by Chris linked from my list. The principles he quotes are a good pointers to help you.

anyone know of a good supplier in Kent? :)

Morgan Timber is listed in the "Timber Suppliers" link
Do not have any forum members comments on them though.

Morgan's is huge dealer with stocks of most hardwoods- both domestic and imported. Last time I was there I bought some green oak which I selected with the help of a very good yard man. However, I telephoned recently when looking for something else and was discouraged from visiting - I suspect they find small users a bit of a waste of time. I daresay that if I had gone anyway, they would have looked after me but as it was, I found what I wanted elsewhere.

IIRC pricing on the oak was pretty normal and delivery was free.
