Last week came to my posesion a number of old window sills (about 20 years old) and I am trying to reclaim as much timber as possible out of them.

I would like some help with the identification of the timber though.

It looks like some kind of meranti, but there are so many different species that now I am a bit confused and I will much appreciate the knowledge and advice of the fellow woodworkers of the forum.

The wood planes easily on the face side but produces some tearout on the edges due to interlocked grain, doesn't have any odour when worked.

Hopefully the photos below would help with the identification.

A) Face planed

B) Endgrain

C) Endgrain shavings

D) Sawn

Thank you in advance.

Brown tropical hardwood? Probably meranti or sapele which are both used a lot in windows. Utile and iroko are also used for windows but utile usually shows yellow/ white streaks and iroko is more lustrous and will feel a bit oily

It has no smell, that's why I think it's some meranti species (utile and sapele have a cedar like smell as I've read)
