most pros take 2 approaches they all rely on screws( I always use decking screws the tiny head ones) drill and plug (from the back if you've got chunky t and g) or run a groove across the batten then fill with a fillet. if your using thinnish t and g just screw through the front( rough as a bears) nailing a door old style will take some practice to get just so

nail clenched. it's a good fixing. sort of springy. I wedged a screwdriver in it and it just returned to flush after.
