Worrying. It sort of makes sense of Australia's border patrol TV series and there insistence that nothing comes in. Wonder if it really works though.
 
Almost certainly too late to stop a whole variety of pathogens, and can't see any Government proposing rigid phytosanitary controls anyway. The garden centre trade alone must be worth a large amount in tax, and rigid controls would probably hit them hardest.
Plus, climate change (which no doubt will be vociferously denied by some!) is altering conditions so that will suit pathogens from further south.
Not a good prospect - think what happened to all the elms.
 
Bad news - I hope it isn't too late to control the problems, though I fear the powers that be will set up steering committee steering committee and fudge until it's too late.

We all love a bit of free wood, but wholesale loss of our precious woodlands would be disastrous.
