Is this a trick question?

If not, could it be a combination of

- uncommon tree
- from a long way off
- rare for trees to yield burrs
- high wastage in preparation
- premium to reinforce market position as a luxury good?

Why not introduce yourself and tell us about what you are making with such an exotic timber?
Welcome to the forum btw!

Depends what you mean by expensive.

If you're sourcing kindling then, yes, amboyna's a pricey way of going about it.

If you're looking to produce an absolutely exquisite jewellery box then amboyna burr is pretty good value compared to the few hundred hours of time that you'll be putting into the project.

Well I am producing period dressing table mirrors in a variety of burrs, it so happens I found a supplier in the states, but by the time I paid the postage and the Border Control had their little dip into my pocket, it was hugely expensive, but I got what I needed, and it's truly a magnificent burr.
