The price of diamonds. Do you just get what you pay for?

I've got three Eze lap plates like Paul Sellers. Special offer some years ago from Tilgear (£80 ish can't remember). Checked the price yesterday - they'd be £250 approx :shock:
I've been recommending 3M Diapad for stone cleaning - I bought a set many years ago (£2 or3 each can't recall exactly). Checked the price yesterday - £20 or so each :shock:
They all work very well and the diapads have been going for years now.
But there seems to be lots of alternative diamond products at much lower prices.
Do the high prices simply reflect high quality? In what way?
What's wrong with the cheaper stuff, if anything?

I think it's to do with diamond quality, mono crystal or multi crystal.
Basically single crystals or bonded together diamond dust.
