OK guys and gals,
Let's play at design by committee. My Perfect Router would be/have

1. Tool-less cutter change.

2. Built-in Router Raizer, but not vulnerable to debris entering the body when in table mode.

3. Easy, positive switch.

4. Plenty of power for panel-raising,

5. But not too heavy for free-hand work.

6. Built-in dust extraction that doesn't impair the view of the cutting zone

7. Can be stood upside-down o the bench without the cable getting in the way.

8. Be accurately concentric, shaft to base.

9. Easy to attach bushes etc.

10. Easy to fit homemade subbases, without having to modify the base first.

THere, that's my ha'p'orth. Your turn.

Add a decent plunge to say 10-15mm below the base, to compensate for router table thickness.

A first class fence - think Microfence.

A supplied eccentric sub-base (the usual tear-drop shape) that clips bayonet fashion - think Bosch guide bushes - to the router without the need for screws.

HAte to say it but this all sounds a lot like a shaper to me
Since you don't use dado's , maybe you 've never done free hand shaping on a shaper either :? :?

Bosch type click on template guide mounting rather than messing about with 2 dopey slotted screws.

Well, someone had to do it...

And there I was being good... (and don't think that #67's a gloat. Mine's older than that and having a Millers Falls in this country is a much bigger gloat :p  )

Cheers, Alf
